Jamhuriya University of Science & Technology (JUST) proudly celebrated its 10th Graduation Ceremony, marking a decade of academic achievement, growth, and national contribution. Established in 2011, JUST was founded by Somali scholars with a vision to fill the quality gap in higher education and nurture professionals capable of rebuilding a nation. Today, more than a decade later, that vision continues to flourish.
This year’s ceremony marked a major milestone as more than 1,000 students graduated across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, one of the largest graduating cohorts in JUST’s history.
Held on Thursday, 4th December, at the National Theatre of Somalia, the ceremony gathered parents, faculty, government officials, religious leaders, industry professionals, and distinguished guests—an assembly reflecting the collaborative spirit behind JUST’s progress. The hall remained notably orderly, an observation highlighted by HE. Nura Mustaf Mukhtar, State Minister for Education, Culture and Higher Education, who praised the students’ discipline and congratulated the graduates for “their exemplary conduct and the calm, respectful atmosphere they maintained throughout the event.”
Inspiring Words from Leadership
The ceremony opened with a beautiful recitation of the Qur’an by Mohamed Ali Nur, the student who won the Qur’an competition during this cohort’s enrollment four years ago.
Engr. Abdalla Sheikh Mohamed, Chair of the Ceremony Organizing Committee warmly welcomed the VIP guests, parents, graduates, members of the Executive Council, and the Board of Directors. He expressed deep appreciation to the Organizing Committee for their dedication and hard work, and officially declared the ceremony open, marking the beginning of a memorable celebration for the Class of 2025.
This was followed by uplifting reflections from Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim Dulmidiid and guest sheikhs from abroad, who spoke passionately about the challenges facing today’s youth including the challenge of irregular migration (Tahriib) and encouraged students to build strong skills, seek meaningful work, honor their parents, and contribute positively to their communities. Their words reinforced values of gratitude, humility, and responsibility—principles deeply rooted in JUST’s mission and culture.
In his official message, President Mohamed Ahmed Mohamud— who is currently abroad shared a powerful reminder of the responsibilities carried by graduates in a rapidly changing world. In his written remarks, he stated:
“You are stepping into a world that is being reshaped by Artificial Intelligence… Regardless of your discipline, you must embrace these tools and let them empower you to create opportunities not just for yourselves, but for your communities.”
He further encouraged graduates with the following message:
“As graduates of JUST, you now carry the responsibility to rebuild our nation. Let your knowledge serve people. Let your ideas solve real problems.”
The Acting President, Eng. Abdirizak Warsame Abdulle, delivered an inspiring message on behalf of the University President—celebrating the 10th Cohort as the ‘Decade Class,’ appreciating families and faculty, and urging graduates to uphold integrity, create opportunities, and serve their communities as they step into a changing world. He also highlighted that 52 students from this graduating class completed their studies on a full scholarship, reflecting the university’s commitment to accessible and quality education.
Among the most encouraging words of the day came from the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Abdirahim Abdi Elmi, who stated:
“We do not only award degrees, but we celebrate resilience, perseverance, and the shared dream of a brighter Somalia… You represent the hope of our founders.”
Words From Parliament and Family
Hon. Dr. Abdullahi Farah Mire, Chair of the Education Sub-committee of the Federal Parliament, delivered heartfelt remarks on the value of education in strengthening national institutions. He emphasized the role of JUST graduates in shaping sectors such as health, engineering, technology, and public administration.
MP. Mohamed Yusuf Walid, the State Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, also delivered uplifting remarks, praising JUST for upholding its motto, “Home of Quality Education.” He encouraged the graduates to recognize their potential as future leaders of the nation, reminding them that today’s national leadership—including the President, Prime Minister, and other senior officials—once stood where they are now, as students guided by teachers who shaped their paths. He emphasized that the graduates of today are the policymakers, innovators, and nation-builders of tomorrow, urging them to continue their education to higher levels and contribute meaningfully to Somalia’s future.
A deeply emotional moment came from the parent representative, Dr. Prof. Ibrahim Farah Bursalid, who expressed immense pride in the students’ perseverance and thanked JUST’s faculty for shaping future professionals with strong ethical foundations.
Alumni representative Hussein Hassan Yusuf (Sabrie)—one of JUST’s first cohort and now a national public figure—offered motivational insights on career growth, resilience, and the importance of alumni engagement. His message served as a powerful bridge between the university’s beginnings and its future.

Outstanding Graduate Innovation Projects of the Year
This year’s convocation proudly highlighted two exceptional graduate innovation projects that demonstrated the creativity, skill, and practical problem-solving ability of JUST students.
- The first project, the University Certificate Issuance Automation System, titled “Automation of University Certificate Issuance: Reducing Processing Time and Enhancing Efficiency Through Digital Solution,” was developed by Sowda Hassan Adam, Hamdi Nur Moallim, Anfa Mohamed Hassan, and Naimo Abdirahim Wehliye. Supervised by President Eng. Mohamed Ahmed Mohamud and assisted by Mohamed Aweis Ami, the system will significantly improve how students request and receive their certificates—making the process faster, more efficient, and fully digitized. The team received warm applause on stage in recognition of their remarkable dedication and the value their innovation brings to the university’s services.
- The second project showcased was the Real-Time Graduation Announcement System, titled “Framework for Real-Time Graduation Announcement System Using RFID Technology,” created by Abdirahman Moalim Muhuddin, Mohamed Mustaf Moalim, and Shafie Osman Elmi. This system was successfully implemented live during the ceremony: graduates approached the server desk where their QR code or RFID tag was scanned, instantly displaying their photo, name, and department on the main stage screen. This ensured accuracy, smooth coordination, and a modernized experience for attendees. The project demonstrated how student-led technological solutions can enhance major university events with professionalism and efficiency.
Together, these innovations reflect the spirit of JUST—where learning meets real-world impact, and students transform ideas into solutions that strengthen university systems and contribute to Somalia’s digital future.
Looking Forward
JUST reaffirmed its commitment to expanding postgraduate studies, strengthening research, and developing innovative leaders capable of shaping Somalia’s future. The event concluded with group photography, prayer, and a final congratulatory message to the graduates.
Closing Reflections
As JUST celebrates its 10th graduation milestone, the achievements of this cohort stand as a testament to the university’s mission, its dedicated faculty, and the unwavering determination of its students. May the Class of 2025 continue to uphold the values of excellence, service, and integrity wherever their journeys lead.
