Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST) is proud to announce a groundbreaking achievement — our official recognition and membership in the World Health Organization (WHO) Civil Society Task Force on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

This remarkable milestone establishes JUST as the only institution in Somalia to join this prestigious global network. The membership is a testament to our ongoing commitment to advancing scientific research, public health, and sustainable solutions to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.

By joining this initiative, JUST gains access to:

  • A global platform for policy dialogue and knowledge exchange with WHO experts and international institutions.

  • Opportunities to contribute Somali and regional perspectives to the global AMR agenda.

  • Strengthened capacity to lead national and regional initiatives on AMR awareness, education, and research.

JUST’s Role and Commitment

JUST has been at the forefront of AMR research and awareness in Somalia, with ongoing programs focusing on:

  • Surveillance and monitoring of antimicrobial use and resistance patterns.

  • Community awareness campaigns on rational drug use and infection prevention.

  • Collaborative research projects with local health institutions and international partners.

Our inclusion in the WHO Task Force reinforces our mission to build a healthier Somalia through innovation, education, and global collaboration.

This recognition reflects the tireless efforts of our faculty, researchers, and students who continue to make meaningful contributions to global health,” said Dr. Kassim Abdi Jimale, Vice President for Research and Development at Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST). “ As the only Somali institution represented in the WHO Civil Society Task Force on AMR, we are committed to strengthening research, fostering innovation, and ensuring Somalia’s voice contributes to global solutions in combating antimicrobial resistance.”

About Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve to resist the effects of medicines, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death. Addressing AMR requires coordinated action across governments, academia, and civil society, and JUST is proud to be part of this global movement.
